Eat What You Kill (EWYK) is a community-first brand, built on the connection to the land and sea, the hunt, and the primal act of nourishing ourselves through the food we source and prepare.
Founded by Tim Kavermann in 2020, EWYK started as a humble Facebook group and has grown into a thriving global community that celebrates self-reliance, the thrill of sourcing food, and the simple joy of sharing meals made with ingredients harvested from nature.
EWYK has always prioritised wellbeing and community, focusing on the power of connecting with the natural world and engaging in the outdoors. Drawing on his lived experiences with mental health struggles and the meaning he found in spearfishing, Tim built EWYK and its partner brand, The Brave and The Wild, as a way to honour his journey and offer others the resources he wished he had.
Our Brand Structure: Two Distinct Missions, One Shared Vision
Over the last five years, Eat What You Kill (EWYK) has evolved into two separate brands to better serve our community and focus on what matters most:
- Eat What You Kill (EWYK):
The heart of wild food and adventure. EWYK is where we celebrate hunting, fishing, foraging, and the connection between nature, food, and community. Through recipes, workshops, and social content, we inspire people to embrace the outdoors and share their wild food journey. - The Brave and The Wild (TBATW):
A standalone mental health platform dedicated to breaking stigma and providing tools, resources, and conversations to support wellbeing. Anchored by our podcast and driven by expert input, TBATW creates a safe space for individuals to explore mental health.
While both brands operate independently, their missions overlap, and they work together to inspire a life of balance, purpose, and connection.
Our Next Chapter: Introducing The Brave and The Wild
As the EWYK community grew, Tim recognised the need for a dedicated space for wellbeing conversations and support. This led to the creation of The Brave and The Wild (TBATW)—a platform designed to complement EWYK by providing meaningful chats about wellness, resilience, and self-awareness.
Launching in February/March 2025, TBATW will include:
- A dedicated web platform.
- The Brave and The Wild Podcast, featuring inspiring stories and expert insights.
- Resources, tools, and support to help people thrive.
We look forward to welcoming you to visit TBATW for focused mental health content, while EWYK continues to be the hub for recipes, sourcing stories, and a like-minded community of adventurers, hunters, gardeners, and wild food enthusiasts.
“Our Mission is to make conversations about mental health as natural and essential as sharing a meal.”

Tim Kavermann
Hi, I’m Tim Kavermann, the founder of Eat What You Kill (EWYK) and The Brave and The Wild (TBATW). I’m a brand and web designer, photographer, and storyteller from Auckland, New Zealand, with over a decade of experience. My journey has been shaped by the highs and lows of mental health and a passion for sourcing wild food, particularly through spearfishing—a pursuit that has challenged me, brought clarity, and fostered connection. After years of building brands for others, I created EWYK as a global community celebrating wild food, adventure, and wellbeing, which has since expanded to include TBATW, a mental health platform and podcast. By sharing my experiences, I aim to break stigmas, spark meaningful conversations, and inspire others to embrace their own journeys with openness and courage.
