Eat What You Kill is a community-first brand built on the primal connection to the land and sea, the hunt, and the nourishment that comes from sourcing and preparing our own food. Founded by Tim Kavermann in 2020, what began as a humble Facebook group has grown into a thriving global community that celebrates self-reliance, adventure, and the joy of sharing meals made with wild-sourced ingredients.
Eat What You Kill values resilience, balance, and connection through nature. It’s a space for hunters, fishers, foragers, and gardeners to share and learn together. With online recipes, stories, an active Facebook community, and collaborations with like-minded brands, members connect, exchange knowledge, and share their adventures. At its core, wellbeing and community drive everything we do.
For five years, The Brave and The Wild has been an integral part of Eat What You Kill, making mental health conversations as natural as sharing a meal. Now, it’s launching as its own brand in March 2025, dedicated to courage, connection, and the unpredictable nature of life. Built on the Eat What You Kill ethos, it will offer storytelling, expert insights, and evidence-based resources to help individuals thrive. Coming soon: The Brave and The Wild Podcast, tools, resources, workshops, and a safe space for honest discussions about resilience and self-awareness. While Eat What You Kill remains your hub for wild food and adventure, The Brave and The Wild gives mental health the dedicated focus it deserves, helping people connect, thrive, and live balanced lives.

Tim Kavermann
Hi, I’m Tim Kavermann, the founder of Eat What You Kill (EWYK) and The Brave and The Wild (TBATW). I’m a brand and web designer, photographer, and storyteller from Auckland, New Zealand, with over a decade of experience. My journey has been shaped by the highs and lows of mental health and a passion for sourcing wild food, particularly through spearfishing—a pursuit that has challenged me, brought clarity, and fostered connection. After years of building brands for others, I created EWYK as a global community celebrating wild food, adventure, and wellbeing, which has since expanded to include TBATW, a mental health platform and podcast. By sharing my experiences, I aim to break stigmas, spark meaningful conversations, and inspire others to embrace their own journeys with openness and courage.

Alongside, I worked as a trauma psychologist in a national crisis team for the Ministry of Justice. My previous work in New Zealand, with the Department of Corrections, included working with a wide range of offenders. I now have a private practice, Mind Garage, and am passionate about working with those who need a helping hand.
